Many will have the opportunity to see TOBI perform who some say is a cross between the singing of a Robin Thicke and the guitar playing of a John Mayer, however there seems to be much more going on at first glance, and in this era we are fortunate to have a prodigy in our midst.Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly. TOBI is about to embark on a string of shows in the London area starting with a show on November 26th at the Bull Theatre in London with Steve Rodgers, son of Paul Rodgers, better known as the singer in Queen, The Firm, and Bad Company, but started his musical career alongside Andy Fraser when in the band Free. Since Andy was about to launch a new venture by starting a record company to release his own material independently from the major label level, he naturally wanted to get behind TOBI's production, and eventually produced and created TOBI's debut album titled "Spirit In Me" a fantastic album that was recently made eligible for 9 Grammy Nominations including "Best New Artist." However it takes a prodigy to see the potential in a prodigy, most notably on a string instrument, and that is what Andy was able to do almost sight unseen, having heard the songs through a former band-mate and his wife as a reference. ![]() In TOBI's case, he started winning achievement awards for music, singing, and dancing as a tween, and since continued to do so until he was discovered by legendary bassist and songwriter Andy Fraser, who in his own right was a child prodigy on the bass having been the bassist for the John Mayall Blues Band and to this day is a very successful songwriter, having written the iconic rock tune "All Right Now" when in the 70's rock band Free, "Every Kinda People" for the late great Robert Palmer. Songwriting talent is a gift as much as playing a string instrument, and when the two are combined with gifted singing ability, peo ple start to take notice very quickly. Fascinated by it, he inquired about it with his by asking if the sound he was making from it was a "Chord" It was not too much longer that his parent bought a guitar for him to practice on, and he has yet to put it down. However what about in the current era? Where is the next Mozart? How would one locate a Mozart? It must be something that can be seen in from others that have the same knack that will locate it.Īt a very early age, Tobi was influenced by his parents as they ran (and continue to run) a school in London where he was surrounded by music and acting from the day he was born, dancing at age 2 and finding a guitar in his parents room at age 11. The study of genetics has come a long, long way in the past several decades, but some gifts are so staggering that it is hard to imagine these children exist. We know that musical talent tends to run in families. The issue is not that the child has talent, but if or even when that talent might flourish, or be suppressed for reasons known or unforseen. Parents tend to notice this before their children reach the age of 2 years old. However some children have a gift for the arts, whether it be artistic or musical, that tend to stand out at an early age. We all know that nothing can take the place of practice, especially when practicing the use of a string instrument. What is it that distinguishes a person with raw talent as opposed to someone with who has to practice?
